The Department of Physical Education & Cultural activities play an important role to develop sound mind in a sound body by making every individual physically fit, socially adjusted and men tally sound Games and sports, Yoga, Pranayam, Gymnastic, Swimming, Drill & Marching, camping, First Aid Safety Education & all physical exercise are included in the subject physical education. It should be planned according to the physical social emotional and psychological needs at all levels form the pre-school to the University as it is more attractive, progressing comprehensive and scientific.
UNESCO says every human being has a fundamental right to access to physical education and sports, which is essential for the full development of his personality. The freedom to develop physical intellectual & moral power through physical education and sports must be granted both within the educational curriculum and in other aspects of social life. Besides imparting higher education, this institution. Since its inception to create an awareness of physical education among the students always they physically fit by pursuing games and sports and cultural activities.
The college provides facilities for practice in different games and sports under the guidance of physical Education Teacher and arranging annual sports competition in which prizes are awarded to winners. This fosters the spirit of fraternity and encourages the students to participate in the games and sports outside the college. Students of this college are selected to participate in district, state, and Council/ university level sports competition. Regular Yoga practice classes are held in the college. The college has an elected body namely of the Athletic Council headed by the Vice-President to organize college level sports competition with support of the PET and elected / nominees students representative and volunteers.
The National Service Scheme of the college has one Boy’s unit under the Degree wing. A unit consists of twenty five student volunteers. During a year the college conducts two Vocational Camp preferably during the Puja Vacation and the summer vacation. In addition several one day Programmes are organized at regular intervals. This Unit sincerely make effort to involves the students with the community service.The unit is headed by a trained faculty of the college.
The National Service Scheme was introduced in the College from the Academic Session 1984 – 85 with an aim and objective of developing the students’ personality through community service and participation. The very purpose of N.S.S is to engage the students in creative and constructive social work and to gain new experiences from the social realities which help them to understand life in true spirit and to enrich their personalities. In this College we had three units of N.S.S two for boys’ and one for girls’ operating under the direct guidance and supervision of N.S.S Bureau, Utkal University, Vanivihar, Bhubaneswar. But now one N.S.S unit (Boys) is operating in the College and Mr.Gurucharan Sethi, Lect.in-Sociology is acting as Programme Officer of this unit. The N.S.S. Advisory Committee is formed to prepare plans and programmes of N.S.S for each Academic Session and to evaluate the work of the units at the end of the session.
Selection of volunteers are made among the students for each unit. The newly selected volunteers are given orientation training by the Programme Officers and Resource Persons and person having social service background. The overall activities of different units are undertaken through normal activities as regular programmes.
During the last four years N.S.S. unit of the College organized special and normal camps in nearby villages and localities.
One unit of N.S.S. undertook a special camp at Balabhadrapur U.P. School, Balabhadrapur from 20th October’11 to 29th October’2011 with active participation of volunteers and villagers. The camp was inaugurated by Dr.Harish Chandra Prusty, the Principal of this College. A Yoga Programme was conducted for the benefit of the students and villagers. Awareness programme on cyclone and flood was also held. Health check-up programme was also conducted by Smt. Rekha Devi, the Principal of this College. A normal camp was organized on the College campus to clean the weeds from the play ground.
A special camp was organized at Deshpur Primary School with One N.S.S Unit conducting the various extension activities. The volunteers cleaned the Villages, Deshpur & Jagulaipada which had been ravaged by the flood.
On the campus of Derabis College, Derabish the special camp inaugurated by the Principal. The volunteers undertook the extension activities like awareness on AIDs, Cancer etc. A Programme on Disaster Management was also organized. In the closing Function Prof. A.C. Biswal, Ex-Principal of the College attended as the Chief Guest.
Regular Camps were held on the campus. The volunteers undertook the cleanliness programme on the College road and College campus. And they cleaned the garbage from Derabish Market. In the Closing Function Prof. Sumati Panda, HOD, Zoology spoke on present environmental pollution due to wide use of polythene carry-bags, Prof. Basanta Kumar Baral, Lect.in-Sociology spoke a few words on moral turpitude of the youth in recent years.
Derabis College, Derabis is imparting Self Defence Training to girl students from the Academic Session 2014-15. The College imparted training to 120 girl students in three groups (every academic sesseion), one group consisting of forty students with the guidance of master trainer of Kendrapara (Auto) College, Kendrapara. In present day society when girls are being mentally, physically, socially and financially harassed and tortures, Self Defence Training to them is the only solution to face the challenges of life and society. The programme will be conducted every year in the College under the auspices on one NSS unit of the College.
The College has a Red-Cross Society. It aims at imparting voluntary service to the needy and distressed ones, during catastrophic periods. It is worth mentioning here the name of that greatman Mr. Jean Henry Durant the founder of Red Cross and the 1ST No blelaureate for peace, whose heart bled for the poor, sick and afflicted persons. The Red Cross Society of the college organizes several activities with a aim to develop volunteerism and leadership qualities amongst the student of our institution.
The Youth Red Cross started functioning in this College from the year 2000 under Red Cross Unit, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The aims and objectives of the Youth Red Cross are to provided health services to the sick, downtrodden and under privileged people of the locality and to promote friendliness among the members of the locality. Both boys and girls who were interested to participate in various activities of Youth Red Cross can be the members / volunteers. Now 65 students are enrolled the members of YRC.The YRC of this College undertakes various activities to promote health awareness and prevention of health hazards. In the last four years Youth Red Cross conducted various extension activities on the campus and nearby villages.
The financial assistance is available through scholarship by the Government. The economically disadvantaged students of this college are awarded scholarship from sundry sources Scholarship Department of Higher Education. The Higher Education department of Odisha awards scholarship under e-Medhabruti for junior colleges and degree colleges through common application form. The application is made online. SC/ST/OBC/SEBC the post matric scholarship is awarded to the students of both junior colleges and degree colleges by the ST & SC Development and Minorities and Backward classes Welfare Department, Govt. of Odisha. The scholarship application are received through online by the college and recommended to the department for necessary action at their end. The Central Govt. provides Merit cum Means based Scholarship for students of minority communities.
Free Studentship to the extent of 12.5% of the total number of students are given in the form of exemption full or half tuition fee in each year. The Principal invitees applications for this and decision or award is made by an expert committee, appointed by the Principal after an interview. Merit and poverty are the basis of selection.

The Scholarship (Rs.100/-) will be awarded to one student of +2 stream (+2 Science) who will secure the highest percentage of marks in aggregate in the H.S. Annual Examination.
